(UPDATED)
Dear Agent,
Eighteen-year-old Rook wants nothing more than to go on the groundbreaking mission to Jupiter. However, after trying to prove his salt as a coder to those leading the journey, he inadvertently creates the world’s most powerful AI.
Working a summer job in the Yukon wilds and being ridiculed for his love of spaceflight, Rook needs a ticket off the edge of the world and onto InoX’s Jaeger rocket—the mission to Jupiter with thousands of applicants and only nine seats. Willing to do anything for a competitive edge, Rook uncovers a file on the dark web and installs it onto a prototype computer. The resulting catastrophe is Avarii—a hyper-intelligent owl susceptible to existential crises and with enough processing power to crash entire city networks.
Avarii can guarantee a spot on the Jaeger, until Rook realizes it comes at a cost. The price to pursue his dream is to reveal Avarii’s secrets—technology that can launch any company’s success into the stratosphere, and would result in the dismantling of his closest friend. And if Rook refuses to sell to one of the largest companies in the world, will mean more than just a lifetime planet-side. It’ll mean his life.
AUTONOMOUS is standalone speculative fiction with crossover and series potential, complete at 103,000 words. It explores AI along the same vein as the TV series WESTWORLD, and would appeal to fans of MR. ROBOT. I have a BS in marketing and work as a content writer at a software company. My last manuscript was chosen as a finalist for the 2016 Pitch Wars contest as well. (Personalization here).
