Thank you peeps! Did not realize the query could be 340 words long. I guess i fixated on the 250 words from the first page thing.
Edit: Fourth version:
Dear (Agent),
Gods exist because we believe in them and fate exists to be defied.
When a tragic accident separates Rowan from his twin sister Rayne, he is left shattered and struggling with confusing hallucinations. But the flashes he sees in the mirror are more than just figments of his imagination, and Rowan will soon find that a deadly secret is hiding behind Rayne's death.
Having traveled to the parallel world of Arret, Rayne knows her twin brother is being hunted by the same gods who killed her. She knows that with Rowan unable to defend himself, she has to take his place. She might be a volkhv, a Slavic shamaness and a shape-shifter and she might carry the magic of the spirits in her blood, but she's no match for the power of the gods. She stands against them regardless.
Thrust into a world of gods, monsters and magic, where belief is power, where the future is written in a weave, where nothing is quite what it seems, Rowan and Rayne are just sacrifices, pawns in a game with cosmic stakes. The gods of Asgard and Olympus stand against them, aiming to use them to return to power. The other pantheons disagree. Rowan would be happier about that if their idea of a good plan didn't involve him becoming a Mayan blood mage and his sister single-handedly holding off the forces of the scheming and murderous deities. As for Rayne... She just wants to know what in Veles's name Loki wants with her brother and why he's offering to help them.
It's an impossible situation and they shouldn't stand a chance. But the weave of fate isn't impossible to unravel, and gods are only powerful if you believe in them. Rowan and Rayne believe in each other and that might just be enough to help them survive.
THROUGH SHATTERED REFLECTIONS is an 80k dark fantasy with series potential that may appeal to fans of Rick Riordan or Neil Gaiman.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Morgan Alexander
(Upon fourth edit, I have now changed the rhetorical question and given explanations on what a volkhv is.
Yes, Rayne does die. It's literally a scene that happens. And yes, she ends up on a parallel world. It's complicated to explain, but the concept rotates around something that's taken from Slavic myth. Slavic lore put forward the idea of parallel worlds and it is said that sometimes, when souls leave unsolved matters behind, they reincarnate in another world. How Rayne managed to trade places with Rowan involves a lot more people that just her and a whole ritualistic magic process. For it to be possible, Rowan literally has to die. One of my first versions of the query included that bit, but my beta pointed out that it was confusing, so I removed it.)
