Hello all,
This is super scary, so be gentle with me.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Fourteen-year-old Alexander Swift (okay, almost fourteen) is not looking forward to the first day of school. He has no exciting summer stories, hasn’t hit the fabled growth-spurt, and is hiding his disastrous middle initial. Plus, cell phones and social media are still verboten. His biggest fear is that he is as unremarkable as he feels. That is until he falls sideways into a different dimension, called Hidden, with his sister Ivy and his best friend, Jack.
Gravity stops behaving the way it should after Alexander gets a talking book with a chip on its shoulder, which takes them to a giant, sentient tree. Maybe it’s time to find out if insanity qualifies for a sick note. The friends are given a momentous choice to stay in Hidden and try to save the world (*at their own risk) or pretend it didn’t happen and give the book back.
Suddenly Alexander has all new problems. Their trainer in Hidden is spooky, possibly not human, and Alexander thinks he has a crush on her. The book jumps them across dimensions whenever it feels like it. Alexander’s life in normal reality (Normal) is being played out by a stunt double with questionable decision-making abilities. Then they get ambushed by zombies.
The Book of Hidden is a 74,000-word young adult fantasy novel. Alexander and his friends explore wonder in the face of adversity and the benefits of having faults. The novel stands alone but is well positioned to introduce a series, for which seven books are outlined.
