Title: Will Not Fade Away
Genre: Women’s Fiction (Adult/Mainstream)
Wordcount: 99k
Query:
Recently widowed A.J. Sinclair thought losing her husband and raising two young sons, one on the autism spectrum, was hard enough, but mankind’s largest volcanic eruption just topped that.
Will’s autism rears its head over a delayed flight, bringing A.J. and Will home early from their trip to Yellowstone. Her brother and younger son, Finn, remain behind to catch the next flight. Then, the unthinkable happens. Yellowstone’s volcano erupts only hours later. Now home in Maine, A.J. has no way of knowing if her brother and son are still alive after an event that has left tens of thousands displaced or dead. Navigating from Maine to Colorado across a shocked nation dealing with the aftermath, A.J. and Will team up with a stranger harboring his own secret demons as they travel to the epicenter to find Finn.
The disaster of a lifetime thrusts one woman into a momentous journey, where healing the past, accepting the present, and embracing uncertainty pave the road to living and loving again. WILL NOT FADE AWAY is women’s fiction (99,000 words), exploring hope and redemption in a world with an unclear future.
Bio and Comps:
Comp titles include Gruen's AT THE WATER'S EDGE, Strayed's WILD, and Haddon’s CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME.
My debut novel, A Hundred Kisses (historical romance with supernatural twist) was just published by The Wild Rose Press. I also write for travel magazines and have published in peer-reviewed science journals. My background is in science, education, and parenting my own special needs children.
I would love fresh eyes, as I have had several beta readers and some agents review it (or partials). Most have loved the concept but feel that it needs work but can't pinpoint where specifically.
The story is told in two POVs - both AJ's and her son, Will's. All have loved Will's POV. They think AJ could be stronger, have more roadblocks, the disaster played up, stakes heightened, etc.
thanks! - Jean
