Thanks so much for anyone who reads over! I've never worked with a CP/Beta before, but I'm eager to give it a shot!
Title: DUODECIM
Genre: YA / Science Fiction / Ownvoices
Word Count: 125k - This will be lowering drastically. It's just where my current draft is at.
Query:
The disappearance of Mr. and Mrs. Clive was the reigning story in the news in 1899 London. Two years later their son Blake, orphaned by the tragedy and just two weeks shy of eighteen, wants anything but to delve into the mysteries that surround the cold case. He much prefers to spend his time womanizing and taunting his foster sister, Adeline. But Blake’s hide-and-seek game with the truth comes to an end when his foster father unlocks a plethora of special abilities in him called the Knowledge, just before telling him that he is the center of a prophecy. Blake is destined to protect those with the Knowledge from the twelve tyrannical gods who rule over the hidden dimension called the Expanse. One problem--he only has two weeks to pull it off.
Just after unlocking Blake, his foster parents disappear in the same manner as the Clives, and resistant as Blake is to face responsibility, newly orphaned Adeline and Blake’s current conquest, Corinna, refuse to let him run away. Together, they travel through the Expanse to the present where they meet a band of rebels spanning race, gender, orientation, age, and ability. The rebels work to train Blake to master his abilities, but Blake struggles under the pressure of his growing self-doubt and the apparent futility of the cause. After all--how could one boy with so little training defeat twelve ruthless gods? And should he win, does the world deserve someone like him as its new leader? But all of those doubts fade away when he watches someone he cares about die protecting him. Despite his self-doubts, Blake is determined to take on the impossible: he will become the prophesied Magister de Duodecim and fight to ensure no one else dies in his name.
Bio:
Hi! I'm Mads. I'm a queer young adult with a BA in English. I've also taken extra courses regarding fiction writing and prejudice studies. This is my second manuscript--my first will never see the light of day, but I think most writers have one of those--and has been my project for the better part of eight years. What I would LOVE is for someone to be able to go over my query, as well as help me assess places where I can cut my word count, make sure my pacing is on point, and help me have a strong few opening chapters. I'd also love to have someone who has a special passion for characterization to help me make sure my characters are realistic and likable.
I'm good with my plot, and my twists. I can get a little wordy in parts, but overall, I think my draft is in okay shape. My biggest foe is my word count, my query, and my opening chapter where I think I'm lacking a good punch. You can reply to me on here, follow/DM me on twitter here, and/or follow my facebook page and message me here!
THANK YOU!!
