Dear ,
Gifted with a brain that works like a video recorder, twelve-year-old aspiring detective Elmo—known to his mocking You Tube followers as Muppit Boy because of a big nose and really embarrassing videos—becomes embroiled in a world-domination plot hatched by his most evil fan, Dr. Drug, a super villain out to dominate humanity through genetically modified organisms. Mo’s original plan is simple: ditch his dweeby childhood alter ego and fly under the radar to survive middle school. It backfires big time, however, when the Sherlock thing takes over and he investigates one of Drug's henchman who steals dentures while wearing a clown mask. Little does he realize that chasing clues with friends Barney and Kashvi will lead to a battle with ugly shoes, pursuit by chainsaw-wielding maniacs, a very public, highly televised rescue by a California condor, and eventual kidnapping by Dr. Drug’s musclebound goons.
Deep within Drug’s underground hideout, Mo awakens to discover he’s been experimented on. Panic sends his ADHD into overdrive and he fights to keep his brain from sliding off the table completely. With Drug now able to control him through a phone app, Mo faces an impossible choice – help the evil genius launch his GMO attack, or be forced to kill the people he loves. The kid who’s always been a joke must somehow become a hero to save his family, friends, and, well, the whole world.
MUPPIT BOY SAVES THE WORLD is an offbeat middle grade contemporary adventure in the vein of Codename Zero by Chris Rylander, Benjamin Dragon – Awakening by C.G. Cooper, and the works of Dave Barry & Ridley Pearson, especially the Peter and the Starcatchers series. The manuscript is 54K words. It stands alone, but has series potential.
I belong to the Horror Writer’s Association of America, the Greater Los Angeles Writer’s Society, and the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. I’ve also made low-budget films, written stage plays, taught high school for twenty-five years, and continue my work as a lifelong volunteer with youth.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my work.
Sincerely,
Michael J. Bowler
