Hello, everyone. I probably need to fine-tune the genre label. Perhaps it is upmarket suspense because of a focus on the character arc. Here is my query:
Dear You,
Robert Pirone is a Pulitzer Prize winning conflict photographer who can do no wrong professionally, but when he moves to Tokyo to win over his estranged adult daughter, Makiko, he accidentally turns her into a target. Around the time she reluctantly agrees to meet him, his side project and stress relief, trying his luck as a paparazzo, turns to gold. He photographs one of Hollywood’s biggest stars cavorting with underage prostitutes in a Tokyo hotel room. A meaningful relationship with Makiko is within reach just when Mr. Young, the actor’s proxy, seeks grist to extort the photographs from him.
Rob has not seen Makiko since she was nine, because Japanese courts don’t grant joint custody. He hates to shelve the photographs, but he won’t shelve Makiko again and miss the last of her formative years. Unfortunately, he’s too distracted to properly assess the threat: Mr. Young’s relationship with the actor. He’s not just an employee but a mentor, a father-figure, who will not risk any fall from grace whatsoever. Mr. Young’s a monster who outmaneuvers Rob because he understands why Makiko is reluctant to accept him. Worse, Mr. Young finds a way to inflame Makiko’s doubts. When that does not create the leverage Mr. Young demands, the bad guys kidnap Rob and the wrong young woman, a friend. Her refusal to reveal the mistake tests Rob’s raw courage, convictions and honor.
My suspense novel VINTAGE ROB is complete at 98,000 words.
Sincerely,
Me!
