As a child, KRISTA played with mythical beings and received magical lessons. At six, Krista’s parents die, and she’s thrust into the foster system where she’s blamed for fires and other chaos her childhood friends create. Tales of fabled creatures get her labelled the crazy-kid, so she binds her powers and denies her supernatural friends.
Eleven years later, a supernatural emissary warns Krista the veil between worlds is damaged and demands her to remember what she is and do her job to protect the Universe. Not wanting the fragile life she’s built for herself smashed by a paranormal wrecking-ball, she ignores his pleas for help and runs away. Later, an uncanny earthquake rips through the library she’s hiding in. A gate to another world appears and forces Krista to make a decision: deny what she is and die or jump in to save herself.
Reluctantly accepting her destiny, Krista soon learns she’s a gifted healer. While searching for a missing Pegasus, Krista is captured by a huge, smelly Rat-Malice who’s feeding off abducted animal’s life-force. He advises Krista’s energy tastes like Angels with a sprinkle of Demon and locks her in a room to wait her turn to be his snack. She escapes and while extracting evil-threads from his soul, she returns him to a small, regular rat.
The MASTER-MALICE wants Krista’s allegiance—he’s twisting innocent animals into vile, human-like creatures, plans to suck the life-force out of each soul that wronged him, and drain planets dry. Sending more of his creature-malices to capture Krista, they seek revenge for their rat brother’s death and enact their own agenda—crack open her chest and slurp out her soul-light to amplify their own magical abilities.
With no plans to help the Master, reconnecting with things that go bump-in-the-night may be the only option to keep this healer from having to turn killer to survive her destiny, eliminate the threats and get back to her heart-sister on Earth before the Master-Malice discovers her.
MALICE is a YA Paranormal Fantasy novel complete at 85,850 words and the first in a series.
This work resembles Patricia Briggs’ MERCEDES THOMPSON novels in its approach to bringing mythical creatures of fable into modern day threats.
As a Reiki Master Energy healer, medium, and spiritual adviser, my understanding of spiritual energy helped me create the magical system in this novel.
I look forward to hearing from you.
