I'm Lorie Hope and I would love to have a beta reader or critique partner. This story has been read by several people, all of whom really like it, but I would like someone who doesn't know me to read it. I would also love to read your work as well. Thanks, Lorie
Name: Reine of Light
Genre: YA Fantasy
Word Count: 105K (can be cut/needs to be cut a little, but it's pretty tight at 105K)
In a time when the world is shrouded in darkness and a person's cremated soul is the only means of usable energy, Aurora Storm is born of a dark skinned demon mother and a bright skinned god father who incarnated as humans to bring her to life. Upon their mortal deaths, Aurora sets out on a journey to resurrect her parent's lost souls and is captured by a monster who sets the course of her destiny.
While riding the rails to the city of light at the top of the mountain, Aurora is captured by a soul-eater who consumes the souls of impoverished children so that he may remain youthful and virile. Being immortal, Lord Abernathy is in search of a woman of pure light who may produce an heir to end his eternal loneliness. Only a child conceived by a mother of absolute goodness would be born without the father's soul-eating affliction. Lord Abernathy is a beloved monarch, who is adored by all because they know nothing of his dark proclivities. Enchanted by Aurora's beauty, bravery and righteousness Saviyon, a male escort and Lord Abernathy’s paramour, tries to save Aurora as he reluctantly falls in love with her. At the same time Lord Abernathy, seeing Aurora's great power over light, empathy for his abomination and ability to inspire the masses, also finds himself enamored with her. Wondering if she would ever be happy with a beast, he makes her his queen. When Saviyon helps Aurora escape, she discovers the darkness within herself and the evil she must face alone as she innocently destroys everything she has come to love.
Reine of Light is a Young Adult Fantasy complete at 105K words and is ready for your consideration.
I am a high school ESL teacher, freelance ghostwriter and former head of the story department at Showtime Networks Inc., as well as a mother of two gorgeous girls, for whom I initially wrote this story.
